Dr. Mary McHugh received her undergraduate degree from the prestigious Pennsylvania State University along with being appointed to multiple national honor societies. Dr. McHugh also graduated in the top 20% of her class from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. Acknowledged for her academic achievements, she was awarded the Morton E. Terry Memorial Leadership Scholarship, inducted into the Sigma Sigma Phi Honor Society, and was the recipient of the prestigious Dean’s Award.
She fulfilled her general surgery internship and urology residency at the renowned Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia. She was selected as the Chief Resident in her final year of training. Furthermore, she obtained specialized training by partaking in extracurricular courses in inflatable penile prosthesis surgery, mid-urethral sling insertion for female stress urinary incontinence, placement of InterStim® sacral neuromodulator and in GreenLight® laser treatment for benign prostate hyperplasia.
Dr. McHugh has contributed to extensive medical research and was asked to present at national meetings on a vast array of topics, such as inflatable penile prosthesis removal techniques, priapism, prostate cancer, renal trauma, robotic management of stone disease, and robotic ureteral reconstruction with buccal mucosal graft. Also, she has served as a peer reviewer for various principal urologic journals.
Dr. McHugh is happily married and enjoys various outdoor activities. She is involved in a wide range of sports, including snowboarding, hiking, and tennis. Impressively, she has accomplished two marathons, as well as a triathlon. When she is not participating in physical activity, she enjoys traveling and considers herself a self-proclaimed foodie.
