InterStim Sacral Neuromodulation

Do you suffer from an overactive bladder or urinary retention? InterStim Sacral Neuromodulation could be the solution to your problems. Sacral Neuromodulation, delivered by the InterStim System, offers long-term bladder control through modulation of the nerves that help control the pelvic floor and lower urinary tract.

The InterStim System is a small device, which is surgically implanted into the patient. The device sends mild electrical pulses near the sacral nerves to help normalize neural activity from the bladder to the brain, allowing patients to experience improved urinary function.

Sacral Neuromodulation is evaluated prior to implanting the InterStim System. The evaluation allows patients and physicians to test the therapy and assess its potential success and tolerability before moving on to long-term treatment. After the evaluation, in as few as three to seven days, physicians are able to find out whether there has been a sufficient reduction in bladder control symptoms.

Who is a Candidate?

Patients who may benefit from this innovative therapy are:

  • Patients who are experiencing urge incontinence or urgency frequency
  • Patients who are experiencing urinary retention without an obstruction
  • Patients who are suffering from quality of life issues
  • Patients who could not benefit from more conservative treatments for an overactive bladder or urinary retention

Many people never report bladder control symptoms because they are too embarrassed to seek treatment or believe their symptoms are a normal part of aging, and do not think their symptoms are bad enough to treat. Others do not know there are effective treatments available. Having an overactive bladder or urinary retention should never be considered normal at any age, and should always be addressed by a doctor.

If you have symptoms of an overactive bladder and urinary retention, contact Somerset Urological Associates (SUA). We offer InterStim Sacral Neuromodulation to help you get back in control of your bladder. Call (908)-927-0300 to schedule your appointment today.
